ix years ago, an Alpha Omega member received a phone call from a recent graduate of an Israeli dental school. The pediatric dentist who answered the phone was told by the Israeli dentist that he would like to attend a residency program in pediatric dentistry in the United States. The pediatric dentist, a fraternity brother, told the young dentist that he would do everything in his power to find a program that would be willing to accept a ‘‘foreign’’student. The AO member contacted several Alpha Omega members throughout the United States to help locate postgraduate programs that would be willing to accept students from outside the United States. One of the programs that accepts foreign students to pediatric dental residencies was contacted by the pediatric dentist who asked the department chairman—who he knew personally—to please review the credentials of the young Israeli dentist and, if this Israeli qualified, please invite him for an interview. A short time later, the Israeli dentist contacted his fraternity brother and informed him that he was asked to come to the United States for an interview. The Israeli dentist is now completing the final month of his 2-year program and has written to his fraternity brother that he is so grateful for finding him such a wonderful program. The pediatric dentist was recently invited to lecture at the dental
school where the Israeli was attending, and was very pleased to learn that the Israeli dental resident is at the top of his class. He was personally thanked by several professors for suggesting that the Israeli dentist apply to their program. The young Alpha Omega resident is very grateful to the fraternity and the pediatric dentist and will be shortly returning to Israel with his family to enter private practice. If you are affiliated with a dental school or postgraduate program— or if you know someone who is— and would like to help one of our dental students from around the world, please send your name and contact information to my attention at the following address, and thank you. 195 Arlington Hts.
