1972 MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY The 1972 Directory of the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy is due to appear in April and all members will receive a copy without charge. Copies may also be purchased at nominal cost from the Executive Secretary of the Association. At the December 1971 meeting of the AABT Executive Board it was decided that this edition of the directory would list only names and addresses of members, in alphabetical order with a geographical listing at the end.

The Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy, The Behavior Therapy and Research Society, and Accreditation The AABT was formed in 1966 to provide an open forum for professionals interested in the disimpassioned and scholarly advancement of behavior therapy as a scientific discipline and clinical specialty. Consistently, the stand has been taken that it is both premature and impractical for our organization to be anything more than an interest group at this stage of development. Some three years ago, it was rumored that a new association had been started, with membership by invitation only and offered to a select group. In November 1971 a letter was sent by the Ad Hoc Executive Committee of this new society, The Behavior Therapy and Research Society, to a substantial number of AABT members inviting them to join this new organization. For a fee of $25.00 they could become Charter Clinical Fellows of the Behavior Therapy and Research Society and have their names listed on a roster of "behavior therapists of acknowledged competence." It soon became apparent that there was widespread misunderstanding concerning this new group, its relationship---or otherwise--to the AABT and the implications involved in the setting up of such a roster. 352 © 1972 by Academic Press, Inc.

For these reasons, it was agreed at the Executive Board meeting of the AABT in December 1971 that the Ad Hoc Executive Committee of the Behavior Therapy and Research Society be invited to place an appropriate statement in the pages of this Journal and, hopefully, in their own journal. The statement received reads as follows:

A roster has been formed of Charter Clinical Fellows of the Behavior Therapy and Research Society. Behavior therapists interested in Clinical Fellowship for this Society may request application form by writing to Mrs. Pearl Epstein, Administrative Secretary, Behavior Therapy and Research Society, Temple University Medical School, c/ o Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute, Henry Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19129. The Behavior Therapy and Research Society is a distinct organization from the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy which sponsors this Journal. AABT, founded originally as an interest group, is also considering developing a roster of behavior therapists. At the December Executive Board meeting of the AABT these developments were discussed. Again, the question of the responsibility of the AABT for establishing some sort of accreditation body was raised and, again, the general concensus was that our organization should probably not engage in such activities at this time. Recognizing the farreaching implications and responsibilities involved in the establishment of such a roster, it was agreed that the question of accreditation be put to our members at the Annual Business Meeting in October 1972 in New York City. To this end, we are inviting the considered thoughts and opinions of our members with respect to these matters in the form of Letters to the Editor, and a representative sample will be printed in the August issue of Behavior Therapy. Other things being equal, preference will be given to letters which are concise, to the point, and addressed to issues rather than individuals.*
