The cutaneous lymphoid proliferations: A comprehensive textbook of lymphocytic infiltrates of the skin Cynthia M. Magro, A. Neil Crowson, and Martin C. Mihm, Jr. New York, 2007, Wiley. 499 pages. $295.00. ISBN: 978-0-471-69598-1. This impressive textbook provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical presentation, histology, and molecular features of both benign and malignant lymphocytic infiltrates of the skin. It is not only an encyclopedic reference, but practically an atlas, containing countless high-quality images of clinical, light microscopic, and immunohistochemical features of the selected diseases. The early chapters summarize the background, reference material, and some of the basic science and therapy of cutaneous lymphomas. The remainder of the book provides an in-depth review of the cutaneous lymphoid proliferations. Each chapter begins with a discussion of the clinical features, then reviews the histology, the immunohistochemistry, and molecular studies that support the diagnosis. The chapters conclude with illustrative case vignettes.

REVIEW

I was particularly impressed by how the authors presented complicated and controversial subjects such as the reactive conditions that may mimic cutaneous lymphomas and the lymphoma precursor disorders in a concise and readable manner. In addition to mycosis fungoides, CD30-positive disorders, and the common cutaneous B-cell lymphomas, there are chapters on Epstein-Barr viruseassociated lymphoproliferative diseases, natural killer cell lymphomas, primary cutaneous Hodgkin disease, and CD8-positive lymphomas, to name a few. All chapters include a review of the most current literature on each subject. This textbook will be an indispensable reference for dermatopathologists and clinicians who care for patients with cutaneous lymphomas. The case vignettes are particularly well suited for residents and fellows, making it an excellent addition to every academic department library. Keri S.
