The Tag Medical Research Prize The Tag Medical company and The Australasian Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons have established a prize to be awarded for outstanding endeavour in the field of medical research by a trainee in cardiac surgery.
Judging The entries will be judged by a committee comprising the President of The Australasian Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons, the President of the Cardiothoracic Section of the RACS, the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Cardiothoracic Section of the RACS, the of Thoracic and Editor of The Asia Pacific Journal Cardiovascular Surgery and the invited overseas visitor(s) for the meeting.
The prize is known as The Tag Medical Research prize and consists of an engraved plaque and Snowden Pencer surgical instruments to the value of $3000. The purpose of the prize is to encourage those training in cardiac surgery to engage in research, to carry out a project and report it at a scientific meeting of Australasian cardiac surgeons.
Marks will be awarded for the following: 1. Quality of abstract

2. Originality of the idea
Any person who is training in cardiac surgery in Australia - whether an Australian citizen or a visiting overseas trainee - is eligible to compete for the prize.
3. Quality of the actual research work 4. Standard of presentation, including verbal presentation, audiovisuals (slides, videos and so on), keeping to time, and response to questions.

Publication
To enter the competition, the trainee must submit an abstract to the convener of the meeting at which the prize will be judged. The competition for this prize is normally held at the Gold Coast Inter ASM Meeting.
The winning entry will be published (subject to editorial review) as a manuscript in The Asia Pacific Journal of Thoracic
and Cardiovascular
Surgery.
