News and Announcements THE RAMON GUITERAS AWARD The AUA presents an award annually to an individual who has made distinguished contributions to Urology. This award is presented in honor of Dr. Ramon Guiteras, who was one of the founders of the Association and its first president. Recipient of the 1984 Ramon Guiteras Award is Dr. Willet F. THE FERDINAND C. VALENTINE AWARD Dr. Ferdinand C. Valentine made a bequest to the New York Academy of Medicine to establish a fund, the income from which was to be used for periodic awards to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to Urology. Doctor Valentine was one of the founders of the AUA, its first secretary and its third president. Recipient of the 1984 Ferdinand C. Valentine Award is Dr. Hugh J. Jewett. THE HUGH HAMPTON YOUNG AWARD In 1969 Bristol Laboratories of Syracuse, New York established an honorarium to be known as the Hugh Hampton Young Award, for presentation annually by the AUA to an individual who has made outstanding contributions in the field of urinary tract infection. Doctor Young was president of the AUA during 1907-1908 and founded, in 1917, The Journal of Urology, which is the official publication of the Association. AUA GOLD CYSTOSCOPE AWARD The AUA Gold Cystoscope Award was created by the AUA Executive Committee in 1977. It is financed by American Cystoscope Makers, Inc., Stamford, Connecticut. This award is given annually to a young urologist who has distinguished himself· by outstanding contributions to the specialty within 10 years of having completed his urological training.
