At one hospital, two men and one woman walked out with 4,600 pounds of used film after convincing an employee that they had made prior arrangements for the pickup. A total of more than $100,000 worth of used film has been reported stolen. The thieves’ tactic is to call the radiology department and offer higher-than-market prices for used x-ray film. After paying for the film the first time, the thieves know where the hospital stores its used film, and they return later to steal it.
