Approach to NMR Spectroscopy, edited by Joseph B. Lambert
and Frank G. Riddell. D. Riedel, Dordrecht,
1983. 548 pages. $72.00.
The proceedings of a NATO Advanced Study Institute held in Stirling, Scotland. this volume contains a mixture of review papers and original contributions. Most of the NMR-relevant periodic table is covered. There are general reviews on shielding, spin-spin coupling, relaxation, dynamic processes, and solid-state spectroscopy. Although much of the original experimental material, organized according to nuclear species or groups ofthe periodic table, has by now been published elsewhere, the book is of particular value because of reviews which are well-organized and concise, or not available elsewhere. These include coverage of deuterium, tritium, oxygen- 17, the elements of Groups V and VI, the transition metals, and solid-state NMR of Group IV elements. The book is very well produced, the reproduction of the camera-ready copy is excellent, and it is a must for every NMR library. W.S.B.
