A CONCENTRATE of the neutral nitrogen compounds fl'ee from nitrogen bases has boon isolated from petrolemn of the Ekhabi (Sakhalin) deposit and it has been shown from the results of functional and spectroscopic analysis that these are amides of carboxylie acids. Their structure is probably expressed by a general formula based on a bicyclic N.substituted o.aryl-lactam group. *THE NITROGEN COMPOUNDS OF PETROLEUM--IV. CONCENTRATES OF NITROGEN BASES

A METIfOI) tor the quantitative determination of the individual pyridines and quinolines has been developed which uses the hydrotbrmylation reaction with subsequent acidimetric potentiometric titration of the reaction mixture in acetic anhydride. This has been used for the group separation of concentrates of the nitrogen bases of petroleum. The chromatographic separation of mixture of pyridines and dihydroaeridines on ASK silica gel has been investigated. I t has been shown that concentrates of the nitrogen bases from petroleum of the [zbaskent and Dzharkurgan deposits contain about 40% of acridine bases and approximpurely the same a m o u n t of quinoline bases; the remainder consists in part of pyridine bases. All these have mainly di- and tricyclic structures. CONVERSIONS OF endo-TRIMETHYLENENORBORNANE ON AN ALUMINOSILICATE CATALYST. THE FORMATION OF ADAMANTANE

THE conversions of trimethylonenorbornane in the presence of' an aluminosilicate catalyst have been studied. I t has been shown that the main reaction is the isomerization of tile trimethylenenorbornane to form adamantane, the yield of which at 400? in a continuous-flow system amounts to 13%, while in a stationary system at 350 ° it is 10%. * ~\'ote.
