The peer review process and JSES procedures The editorial board and the board of trustees of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES) take particular attention to ensure that the peer review process and selection of papers for publication are based upon unbiased peer review. Peer review of manuscripts is blinded to the authors and reviewers. The JSES is the official peer review publication of several International Societies. As a result, the peer review and editorial process is respectful of the International support of the JSES. The editorial board and the board of trustees are also represented by its International membership. The basis of quality peer review is the participation of skilled, knowledgeable and unbiased peer reviewers. We thank all those that contribute their time and talent to this peer review process and solicit the active participation of all of the reviewers that we request participation in this process. Over the last 13 years, the JSES has had an increase in its impact factor from 0.670 in 1999 to 2.747 in 2011. The JSES now ranks 10th of 63 peer-reviewed Journals in the Orthopaedic Surgery category. In 1998, the JSES published 564 Pages within 6 issues. In 2011, 797 manuscripts (all categories) were received for review and 244 papers in 1,360 pages within 8 issues were published. Since the
beginning of the use of online electronic tracking of manuscript submissions in 2007, the acceptance rate of original clinical studies has remained unchanged, with an overall rate of 42.5%. Over this period of time, the percentage of papers published from North American, European, Pacific Rim, and Asian countries has maintained a consistent reflection of an unbiased peer review and editorial process, with a focus on blinded review and acceptance of the best papers. This policy is reflected in the strong International representation of the papers published in the JSES as well as its ever increasing impact factor. The editorial board and board of trustees maintain an open forum for discussion and comment from our readership. We value the continued support of our Journal through your submission of high quality manuscripts and willingness to participate in the peer review process.
