Aim: In order {o found a sensitive, non-invasiv¢, early diagnostic method in schislosomiasis japonica liver fibrosis, a comparallv¢ study was conducted belween the serological diagnosis of liver
A set of primers were designed according to the published sequence of the gene encoding a rhoptry protein of Babesia caballi (Dalrymple et al., Exp. Parasitol., 84: 96-100, 1996), and used to amplify parasite DNA from the blood samples obtained from carrier horses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Specific PCR product was amplified form the horse erythrocytes-infected with B. caballi (USDA strain), but not from erythrocytes-infected with B. equi (USDA strain) or uninfected erythrocytes. This method was sensitive enough to detect parasite DNA from 2.5 HI blood sample with a parasitemia of 0.000002%. The PCR method was compared with IFAT and thin blood smear examination in order to evaluate the diagnosis efficiency for B. cballi infection in horses. Of 142 field samples from Mongolia, 28 (20%) and 96 (69%) samples were identified positively by PCR and IFAT, respectively. However, the parasites were not found microscopically on all of the thin blood smear samples. These results indicated that the PCR method was more efficient than thin blood smear examination in diagnosing the carrier infection, however, it may be not sensitive enough to identify all carrier horses. The finding that 5 IFAT-negative samples were PCR-positive suggests that the combination of PCR method and [FAT for diagnosing B. caballi infection may be more effective in detecting the carrier horses.

P-0953 THE SUPERSONIC DIAGNOSTICS OF CHILDREN LUNGS ECHINOCOCCUS
Hemraeyev A.D.*, Permanov H.P.**, Mengliyev T.E.**, Tachmnradov N.M.** Turkmen State Medical Institute, Turkmeuistan The goal of this work is the definition of echography informativeness in the presence of children lungs' echinococcus. The echography of the lungs was carried out for 32 children suffering from the lungs' echinicoccus at the age of 7-14 years old. The acoustic windows for each part and segment of both lungs were defined for the exact localization of the pathologic hearth. The echographic pictures were compared with the radiographic data. The lungs' supersonic invesUgation in the presence of cehinococcus gave the opportunity to define the localization of the cyst, its dimensions, the nature of its contents, the width of the cyst's wall, the intergri~, and the width of chitni cover, as well as the degree of inflammatory process and atelektasis of parenchyma round the lung's cyst. The lungs' echography appeared to be a very valuable method when investigating the patients being in very hard condition, breathingwith the help of apparatus. Thus, the supersonic investigation is a high informative method of characteristics and differential diagnostics of children lungs' eehinococcus, and it notably reduces the radiation load.
