DIE CHIKUKGISCHE BEHANDLUNG DEK AKUTEN UND CHRONISCHEN ARTERIELLEN VERSCHLBSSE (The Surgical Treatment of Acute and Chronic Arterial Occlusions). By A. Senn, Chirurgischen Klinik, Universitit Bern. Bern, 1963, Hans Huber, 207 pages, 19 illustrations. Price: Fr/DM39. In this monograph, embolic and thrombotic arterial diseases are presented in detail, with special reference to the recent Anglo-American literature. The numerous and well-arranged statistics from the literature are compared with the results of 287 operations performed by the author. He is in favor of embolectomy even m those patients who are admitted to hospital more than 10 hours after embolism. In 62 per cent of these patients the operation resulted in conservation of the extremity. In peripheral occlusion distal to the iliac artery, lumbar sympathectomy will improve arterial circulation in about 80 per cent of the patients In addition to surgical management, this book gives the physician a good presentation of the

SPATIOCARDIOGKAPHY; TEXTBOOK AND ATLAS. “1; Prof. Vilem Laufberger, M.D., DSc., Member ot the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Prague, 1964, Publishing House of the Czechoslovak.;Zcademy of Sciences, 189 pages. This book describes spatial vectorcardiography as practiced in Czechoslovakia. The methods and ideas as used by the physicians there are clearly described and well illustrated by diagrams throughout the text and with photographs of spatial vectorcardiograms in an atlas appended at the end of the book. The presentation is supported by mathematical discussions which render the book less interesting to practicing physicians but more valuable to students in the held. The author not only discusses representative records of cardiac disease and the normal but also presents clearly some of the fundamental concepts of vectorcardiography. This is a good book and should be of particular interest to beginners as well as to more experienced investigators in the tield.
