*THE CATALYTIC POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFINS. COMMUNICATION 14. THE POLYMERIZATION OF ETHYLENE OVER A NICKELOUS OXIDE-ALUMINOSILICATE CATALYST UNDER ELEVATED PRESSURE

Ya. T. E i d u s a n d B. K . N e f ~ d o v , N e f t e k h i m i y a 1: No. 6, 7 8 6 - 7 9 0 , 196l. THE influence of the pressure, the space velocity, and the temperature on the dimerization and polymerization of ethylene in the presence of an impregnated nickelous oxidealuminosilicate catalyst has been investigated. At the optimum temperature of 275", the main reactions are: at atmospheric pressure, the dimerization of ethylene; at an elevated pressure--about 30arm, polymerization to liquid hydrocarbons. Increase in the space velocity of the ethylene within the range from 100 to 1000 h ~ favours dimerization. At. a low space velocity of the ethylene, redistribution of hydrogen takes place.

THE CONDENSATION OF HEXACHLOROCYCLOPENTADIENE WITH ALKENYLDIHALOGENOCYCLOPROPANES

A. F . P l a t 8 a n d O. A. S h c h e r b a k o v a , N e f t e k h i m i y a 1: No. 6, 7 9 1 - 7 9 5 , 1961. A SERIES of alkenyldihalogenocyclopropanes has been obtained and their condensation with hexachloroeyelopentadiene has been studied; initially, the corresponding adducts are obtained, some of which possess insecticidal activity.

THE SYNTHESIS OF ALKYLPHOSPHONIC DICHLORIDES FROM NORMAL PARAFFINIC HYDROCARBONS BY OXIDATIVE PHOSPHORYLATION

O. N. G r i s h i n a a n d R. Z. S a b i r o v a , N e f t e k h i m i y a 1: No. 6, 7 9 6 - 7 9 9 , 1961. ALKYLm[OSPrr0NIC dichlorides have been obtained by the oxidative phosphorylation of normal butane, pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, and dodecane. Rectification in a column of 23 theoretical plates has yielded a number of isomeric alkylphosphonic dichlorides. The individuality of the primary isomers has been shown by saponifying them to form acids (crystalline). m

*THE EXTRACTION OF ISOBUTYLENE FROM AN INDUSTRIAL BUTANE-BUTYLENE FRACTION

N. G. P o l y a n s k i i a n d Ye. F . F e d o r o v . N e f t e k h i m i y a 1: No. 6, 8 0 0 - 8 0 3 , 1961. i METHOD for the hydration of isobutylene with water contained in a swollen cationexchange resin catalyst has been proposed. At a temperature ~ 75 ° in the presence of the H form of KU-2 resin in the air-dry state, the polymerization of isobutylono takes place in addition to its hydration. With a rise in the temperature, the a m o u n t of isobutylene hydrated diminishes and the a m o u n t polymerized increases. I t has been established that, in addition to isobutylene, the normal butylcnes (mdergo polymerization on dehydrated KU-2 resin.
