University of Illinois Press (Urbana, Illinois 61801, USA), ISBN 0-25200295-4, Third Printing of the paperback edition 1976, 244 pp. (softcover), $3.45 This volume sets forth certain concepts and methods needed to develop a general methodology for determining regularities in the functional interrelationships of cultural patterns and the processes of culture change which have occurred independently among societies in different parts of the world. The introduction presents a broad statement of the scientific objectives and of certain heuristic concepts and procedures necessary to realize this objective. The first five chapters are primarily theoretical. Each elaborates a concept and method. The following seven chapters are slightly more substantive than theoretical in that they illustrate applications of the basic theory to selected cultures. Bibliography. (TSM)

The report has a discussion on the components of tourism and thus the difficulty in defining the industry. In addition to furnishing a detailed description of the nature of the impact made by tourism on the economies of the two countries, the book provides a list of the general data requirements and sources of information for studies of this type together with a sample questionnaire and an account of the methodology.
