PATENTS Sealing sub-assembly for a ball joint Applicant: TRW Automotive GmbH, Germany A seal arrangement for the fitting of a balljoint boot to a steering knuckle is described. An L-section, metal ring forms an interference fit with the shaft. The radial flange has an integral elastomer seal that seals against the flange of the joint. The boot itself seals against the outside diameter of the axial section of the metal component. Publication number: WO/2009/115309 Inventors: P. Bernhard, A. Maier, U. Mette and C. Glass-based composite seal for high-temperature applications Applicant: Technical University of Denmark, Denmark The aim of this invention is to provide an improved glass-based sealing composition for SOC stacks to ensure excellent sealing properties. The seal formed provides sufficient bonding properties while at the same time prevents impurities from migrating from the sealing layer into adjacent layers of the cell stack. It is composed of glass particles coated with particles of a ceramic material and/or a metallic material. The average particle size of these glass particles is at least ten times that of the ceramic or the metallic material. Publication number: WO/2009/115340 Inventors: P.H. Larsen and M. Menon Publication date: 24 September 2009
A seal design for the central tube of a filter assembly is described. The seal fits adjacent to a collar on the central tube and seals against the cartridge element. The seal has two sealing ‘legs’ and a drain port in the centre that aligns with a drain in the tube assembly. Publication number: WO/2009/115605 Inventors: B. Le Roux and G. Malgorn Publication date: 24 September 2009
Captive seal for banjo connector Applicant: Renault Sas, France A sealing washer on a banjo fitting is provided with a temporary securing means that consists of at least two plastically deformable tabs that hook over the inlet pipe of the fitting. Publication number: WO/2009/115724 Inventor: G. Trebern Publication date: 24 September 2009
Instrument seal with inverting shroud Applicant: Applied Medical Resources Corp, USA A surgical access device is composed of an instrument-access channel that extends through an instrument seal and a shroud. An inverting region, remote from the seal, exhibits improved tear-resistance of the instrument seal during instrument manipulation – for example, when the instrument is being withdrawn. Some embodiments of this region invert through the instrument seal on instrument withdrawal. Other embodiments of this region induce at least a portion of the instrument seal itself to invert on instrument withdrawal. Publication number: WO/2009/117694 Inventors: S. Taylor, K.B. Mcginley and H. Kahle Publication date: 24 September 2009
High-pressure seal Thermally conductive gasket Applicant: Lam Research Corp, USA This invention relates to plasma-processing chambers and electrode assemblies that are used by these chambers. An electrode assembly is provided that comprises a thermal control plate, a silicon-based shower-head electrode and a thermally conductive gasket. The latter is positioned such that it is isolated from the shower-head passages and may facilitate heat transfer across the thermal interface from the shower-head electrode to the thermal control plate. Applicant: Robert Bosch GmbH, Germany This invention relates to a high-pressure seal (1), especially for fuel-injection valves. A sleeve (9) has a profiled outer diameter. It comprises a sealing bolt (11), has a blind hole (19) and a compression element (12). The compression element (12) is pressed into the blind hole to expand the sleeve and effect a seal. A collar (18) is pressed, at least indirectly, against the body. Diagrams also suggest that a hydraulic piston may be used for the expansion of the sealing bolt. A wide variety of external profiles for the sleeve are also illustrated. Publication number: WO/2009/118215 Inventor: J.-P. Nagel Publication date: 1 October 2009
Composite glass seal for a solid oxide electrolyser cell stack Applicant: Technical University of Denmark, Denmark This invention concerns a solid oxide cell stack, including sealing components. The latter comprises a glass component and a part composed of a metal oxide or metal-oxide precursor. The component that is composed of the metal oxide (or metal oxide precursor) is located at least in between the glass component and a gas passageway. This invention further provides details of a method of producing the solid oxide cell stack and ways of sealing it. Publication number: WO/2009/115341 Inventors: N. Lönnroth, A. Hauch, M. Mogensen and M. Chen Publication date: 24 September 2009
