Phys. solid Earth (a translation of Fiz. Zemli), 19(10):790-799. Models of oceanic crust compiled for 8 profiles were used to analyze residual anomalies, revealing that the lithosphere is denser in the Bay of Bengal and lighter in the East Indian Ridge than normal. An anomalous coexistence of both types is found in the upper mantle of the Sunda island arc system. Subbotin Inst. of Phys., Ukranian SSR Acad. of Sci., USSR. (mwf) 85:5158 Yoshida, Mitsuru, 1984. An overview of diagenesis from petrographical and geochemical perspectives is presented using a simplified terminology. Stages of diagenesis described are: eogenesis--biological, chemical and physical changes occurring at temperatures lower than those required for hydrocarbon cracking (equivalent to Tissot et al., 1974, diagenetic stage); telogenesis-reactions following burial resulting from contact between organic matter and meteoric water or atmospheric 02; and catagenesis and metagenesis-sequential changes occurring at greater depths and higher temperatures. Long-term photographic, current, and nephelometer observations of manganese nodule environments in the Pacific. Earth planet. Sci. Letts, 70(1):95-109. From nearly three years of observations, there was no evidence that benthic organisms turned over, rotated, or moved nodules; however, benthic organisms cleaned sediment from the tops of nodules and in some cases deposited sediment underneath. Currents never exceeded the expected threshold for nodule movement. Particle concentrations in the water remained uniformly low. All changes of the seafloor morphology were attributable to the activity of organisms as opposed to currents. LamontDoherty Geol. Observ., Palisades, NY 10964,USA. 85:5163 Hem, J.D., C.E.
