COMPLETED PRICE, DAVID RUDOLPH. Bibliographic Access to Reports of the U.S. Comptroller General: Comprehensiveness and Time Lag in theMonthly Cu~afog and GovcrnmcntReporLs Announcements and Index. MLS Paper, University of North Carolina, April 1980. Major

Adviser: Ridley Kessler. 21 pages. This study examines the comprehensiveness and speed of coverage by the Monthly Catalog of reports of the U.S. Comptroller General issued 1968-1978. For the 1977-1978 reports, coverage in the Monthly Catalog and Government Reports Announcements and Index is compared. A random sample of reports issued during each of the years surveyed was selected and searched in the Monthly Catalog. Apparent time lag was calculatedfrom the date of issue of the report to the issue date of the covering Monthly Catalog. The sample items for 1977 and 1978 were also searched in Government Reports Announcements and .Index. Real time lag was calculated from the date of issue of the report to the date of receipt of the index covering it for both Monthly Catalog and Government Reports entries. Monthly Catalog coverage is shown to vary greatly in both comprehensiveness and time lag over the period examined. For 1977-1978 reports, Government Reports Announcements and Index coverage is significantly less comprehensive but faster than the Monthly Catalog. IN PROGRESS
