MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS Third International Symposium on Fresh Water from the Sea; 14-16 September 1970, Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia (First Information)
ORGANIZEDby the Working Party on Fresh Water from the Sea of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, in cooperation with Jugoslavenska Akademi ja Znanosti I Umjetnosti, Zagreb, and Savez Hemicara-tehnologa FNRJ, Beograd. All professional people, who are engaged in the scientific and technical development of producing fresh water from sea and brackish water and the associated problems of supply to the consumer, are invited to take part in this Symposium. The following themes and processes will be discussed: Group l-Theoretical; Properties of water and electrolytes; Analytical Chemistry of sea water Group2-Distillation processes; Scale formation and its prevention; Corrosion; Use of nuclear energy; Solar distillation; Humidification processes Group 3 - Ionic processes; Electrodialysis; Reverse osmosis (hyperfiltration); Ion exchange techniques Group 4 - Freezing processes; Hydrates; Other desalination processes Group 5 - Economic considerations; Use of desalted water in conventional supply systems, including agriculture. The meeting will last three days and will be followed, if there is sufficient participation, by a discussion-cruise.
