Toxicological Aspects, Presented at the IXth International Congress of the European Association of Poison Control Centers and the European Meeting of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, Thessaloniki, Greece, August 24-27, 1980. Three months after the Congress the proceedings have been published and this volume contains the majority of the presented papers. The papers were written by 134 authors and their subjects extend from the detection and determination of the poison to treatment and prevention, as well as mechanisms and biochemistry of poison metabolism. This volume provides a concise and highly readable coverage of the chemical and medical problems posed by the presence of widely distributed chemical substances. It deals with many aspects of poisons and poisoning and many interesting opinions and studies on detection, isolation, determination of poisons, their action on living organisms, histopathological damage, mechanism of toxic action and biotransformation, therapeutic methods, antidotes, hemoperfusion, modern analytical instrumental analysis, comparative studies, epidemiological data of poisoning, etc. are presented. Also included in this volume are special cases of poisoning from drug overdoses and industrial toxic substances and their effects on the environment and man. To those interested in poison and poisoning this volume should be of great value because of its fund of basic information all of which is up-to-date. On the whole the book provides an excellent background on poison and poisoning studies and researches. Information
