Filter head for prefilter series offers more security and speed At the BAUMA 2016 trade fair in Munich Mann+Hummel presented a new filter head for its PreLine fuel prefilter series. The company says the manual pump on the clean side enables the filter to also provide more security for applications with a low fuel quality. In addition, after servicing the filter system can now be filled up again much more quickly.

The PreLine prefilter for diesel fuel separates course particles and water and is said to extend the service life of the main filter. This prevents engine wear and wear to sensitive injection system components. The complete PreLine series includes seven sizes for nominal flow rates from 50 to 600 litres per hour.

Expanding into solids management Spiral Water Technologies, a developer of advanced filtration solutions for difficult-to-treat waters, has expanded application of its award-winning technology into the solids management arena. Working directly with clients to create industry-specific solutions, the company has introduced a filter system that offers a new waste management strategy that could prove valuable to the food & beverage sector, as well as other companies with high solids processing issues. Spiral Water’s new filter system integrates the company’s flagship automatic self-cleaning filter with proprietary sensor technology that measures build-up of solids electronically and automatically activates the valve to purge them. Because Spiral Water’s patented automatic filtration technology allows one-pass low micron filtration, requiring no backwash or crossflow, the high and

Mann+Hummel adds that even with poor fuel quality the filter system stays fully functional. Therefore the filter head is particularly suitable for applications in countries where the diesel fuel is more contaminated with water and particles. The filter head is designed for nominal flow rates of 270 to 600 litres per hour.

variable solids are automatically concentrated and purged in the process. Spiral Water says this enables easy solids recovery and management, and the major reduction in diluted wastewater can lower clean-up expenses. Market applications for the Spiral Water filtration system encompass oil and gas produced water; industrial water; desalination; wastewater reuse and recycling; marine and ballast water; mining; power generation and hydro power; food and beverage manufacturing; biodiesel/biofuels; and pretreatment for microfiltration, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. www.spiralwater.com

The Alfa Laval HCO filter is a solution for the new generation of two-stroke engines where traditional camshafts have been replaced by hydraulic control systems. The hydraulic control system core components are dedicated valves fed with oil from the main system flow, which must be very finely filtered with minimal pressure drop. Due to the sensitivity of the large centrifugal main pumps used to move the oil, additional pressure drop across the HCO filter would ultimately risk engine damage.

The Alfa Laval HCO filter is a highperformance solution for the new generation of two-stroke engines.

The Alfa Laval HCO filter, now set to begin validation testing, easily achieves this balance of fine filtration and flow passage. “The Alfa Laval HCO filter will remove much of the cost and installation complexity associated with hydraulic control system protection,” says Herve Gourdon, Business Manager, Filters at Alfa Laval. www.alfalaval.com/marine

TPU fabrics provide maximum elongation and elastic recovery Mogul has announced the launch of a new product line comprising polyester based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fabrics under its ELASTEX brand of nonwovens.

cable wraps, films and many others. Elastic nonwovens applications are expanding rapidly due to their value adding technical attributes.

Mogul ELASTEX TPU products are designed to provide maximum elongation and maximum elastic recovery. ELASTEX TPU is a highly elastic product for use where good stretching capability is needed. Besides its elastic characteristics ELASTEX TP has high air permeability and is resilient to abrasion, puncture, ageing and UV. It will be available in various colours.

The TPU products are made without solvents thereby kind to the skin when used in clothing, as protective covering for mattresses and other healthcare applications. Generally, TPU provides good bonding to different substrates.

Leading areas of TPU nonwovens application include medical, pharmaceutical, hygiene, healthcare, sportswear, food packaging, beverage filters, automobile interior components,

TPU is a material that falls between rubbers and plastics. It softens when heated and solidifies when cooled and has a unique molecular structure that provides good compression set, elasticity, transparency, high resilience to mechanical impact and resistance to weather, oils and greases. www.mogulsb.com www.filtsep.com
