New Static Card Reader.-A new static card reader now available from Industrial Timer Corporation reads from 1 to 960 circuits simultaneously and can be supplied to read an entire IBM, Remington-Rand, or other similar type card. The card reader, designated Model 4000, instantaneously reads either 12 rows or 80 columns through 960 individual contact pins without any change in card position. Its extreme flexibility allows full utilization of existing data processing equipment for punching, storing, and sorting cards used for process control as well as data processing. Since one side of the circuit is a printed circuit board, special configurations are also available. In operation, the punched card is inserted in the reader through the door in the front of the unit. Operation of the reader handle moves the card and printed circuit board into contact with the contact pins. Handle movement at the end of the operating arc locks the reader in place by toggle action. Those areas on the card which have been punched will allow contact to be made betweenthecontact pins and the printed circuit matrix. The material of the card prevents circuit completion in unpunched areas of the card. Correct card placement is assured through a position sensing mechanism. If the card is properly placed in the reader, a sensing switch will close, directing current to the reading mechanism. Improper card insertion automatically prevents current from being switched to the printed circuit matrix. Both conditions, GO or NO GO are indicated by lights mounted on the front surface of the card reader. For programmed circuit wiring, the contact pins and mated circuits can be wired to suit customer requirements. All circuits can be brought out to connectors of the customers choosing.

The Model 4000 static card reader is available in relay rack mounting or in a table model. Transistorized Acoustic Vibration Analyzer.-A new and portable sonic proportional bandwidth spectrum analyzer has been designed and produced by Panoramic Electronics, Inc., of Mount Vernon, N. Y., for onthe-spot analysis of acoustic noise and accurate vibration measurements in the 4-20,000-cps. frequency range. Constant percentage selectivity of the new Model LPP-4 provides noise measurements conforming with results of previous surveys and industry standards. Compact and easy to use in the field or laboratory, the new LPP-4 automatically scans a wide band of acoustic frequencies (40-20,000 cps.) and displays them graphically on a 3-in. CRT. A second band from 4 cps. to 2 kc. is tuned manually. The highpersistence CRT screen is calibrated with log scales for frequency vs. amplitude presentation. Sensitivity is 0.001 volt full scale with 90 db. attenuation furnished in IO-db. steps. Three range selectivity, switch operated, includes: All-Pass operation in which the built-in CRT and decibel meter monitor the entire A-F input signal; wide bandwidth filter for “quick look” spectrum surveys; and narrow bandwidth filter for highly resolved analyses. A lOO,OOO-ohm input impedance facilitates use of the new LPP-4 with many types of transducers. Chart recorders and other auxiliary indicators can also be accommodated. Mechanics Pack for Space Use .A compact, 160-lb pack which virtually converts a pressure-suited crewman into a one-man space vehicle for assembling and servicing spacecraft in orbit or deep space has been developed,
