Flaw detection for composite structures Flaws in composite structures and components such as carbon fibre and glass-reinforced plastics can be detected with the latest NDT instrument from Diagnostic Sonar. The Flaw Imager displays images of defects in real time on a Bscan monitor with simultaneous A-scan projection. They can be detected from near-surface to 25 mm depth in CFC, and resolution ranges upwards from 1 mm in diameter. The instrument is portable and can be powered from mains or an independent power source.

TV inspection systems The KTV II TV inspection system has been designed for visual inspection and documentation of a wide variety of structures. Available from Henke-Sass Wolf, they complement the company's range of endoscopes. Low light illumination cameras (5 and 10 lux) are included in the portable system, which allows inspection images to be viewed and recorded and enables defects to be measured direct from the TV screen.

Signal analysis workstation upgraded Several single and dual channel modes and options for their System/90 signal analysis workstation have been announced by Rockland Scientific. Complementing the company's portable data acquisition and FFT analysis system, the new models have an embedded PC-compatible computer. They are particularly suited for sound and vibration measurements, machine diagnostics, control system design and modal analysis. The model 9010, a single-channel workstation, has a 640 x 400 LCD display and provides analysis from 0.1 Hz to 20 kHz with a
The monitor and video recorder are housed in an aluminium case together with camera, lenses and cables, the whole system weighing 14 kg.

maximum resolution of 8 mHz. Functions include instantaneous and averaged spectrum, time averaging and spectrum of averaged time. Standard features include spectral maps, transient capture, waveform recording, profiling, nondestructive zoom, integration differentiation, automatic data acquisition, 80 dB dynamic range and input sensitivity down to 1 mV fs with full alias protection. The 9030 model with 100 kHz of maximum analysis also has octave spectrum, autocorrelation, probability functions, and harmonic and sideband analysis. The two-channel version of the 901 0, the 9020, provides transfer functions, coherence output power and orbit diagrams. The 9040 two-channel version of the 9030 provides standard measurements and includes enhancements such as cross spectrum, cross-correlation, impulse response, Nyquist, Nichols and orbit diagrams. Window functions include hanning, uniform, flat top, KaiserBessel, force, exponential and user-definition capabilities.
