Cartridge tape subsystem
Interface launched Digital cartridge tape drives can be interfaced to Data General MicroNova computers, using the model DMN-1 cartridge tape subsystem from A l l o y Engineering. This allows the cartridge drive to emulate a standard nine track nrzi tape peripheral. The subsystem does not require card slots or power from the computer mainframe and up to two cartridge tape drives can be supported by a single controller.

The advantage to the oem is using the PM 100 series is said that paper can be multipart, continuous, fanfold, sprocket or friction fed, while variable pitch allows 132 characters to be printed at 16 cpi, 99 at 12 cpi or 82 at 10 cpi. The PM 100 can print incrementally, character by character, or continuously at 90 cps, the ballistic head having nine needles for upper and lower case characters. Amongst the options available are bidirectional operation, paper rewind, graphics, document validation, 'paper low' detection and a stationery feeder box.

Finding fault English language visual instructions are given to the operator from the model P20 eprom programmer/fault Iocator. They tell him what is happening, why a fault has occured and what the fault is. The programmer is supplied with personality cards, to handle all current eproms (4K to 32K) from all major manufacturers. Up to ten eproms may be programmed simultaneously, with a plug-in expansion option .to allow the programming a maximum of 20 at a time.
The single key operation of the P20 allows faults to be isolated and displayed. When and eprom is verified, full details of a fault may be noted, including the error data contained and such problems as shorted address or data lines. Visual and audible pass and failure indications are given.

Two t o l o o k u p t o Two large digits have been added to the Staver Signalex range of seven bar electro magnetic displays. These 450 mm and 600 mm high devices compliment the five existing sizes which vary between 38 and 300 mm. They work on the principle of pulsing the individual sections to display or mask the vane. A 12 volt pulse is required to change the information and no power is taken when maintaining a steady indication. There are no internal light bulbs to change, viewing is by the incident light and the display is claimed to be highly visible outdoors and in sunlight. Applications are for clocks, score-boards and traffic information.
