He obtained his MD degree cum laude in 1990 at the Univesrity of Bologna medical School where he subsequently completed the residency in General Surgery and a PhD in Surgical Oncology of the Dygestive Tract. He has served as Research Fellow in the Department of Surgery at Massachussets General Hospital in Boston (USA) and as Clinical and Research Fellow in Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery at Brown Medical School in Providence (USA). He is member of the Bioethic Committee, University of Bologna, Member of the Task Force "Surgery in the elderly", SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology). He has published more than 40 papers in peer reviewed International Journal.

Hans Wildiers General Medical Oncology, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium Hans Wildiers is a medical oncologist dedicated to breast cancer research and geriatric oncology. He is staff member at the department of medical oncology in the University Hospital Gasthuisberg Leuven, Belgium since 2004. He has been coordinator of several academic studies in the field of breast cancer and geriatric oncology, and author of more than 100 peer reviewed papers. He is Belgian national representative and has been board member of SIOG, the international society of geriatric oncology. He is also board member of the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology (BSMO), the Belgian Journal of Medical Oncology (BJMO) since 2007, and of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology. Since 2009, he is chairmen of the elderly task force cancer of the elderly of the European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). Ulrich Wedding Palliative Care, Universitätsklinikum Jena, Jena, Germany Ulrich Wedding, MD and PhD, is Consultant for Haematology, Oncology, Palliative Care, and Geriatric Medicine at the University Hospital in Jena, Germany. He is head of the department of palliative care. He is an active clinical researcher. His clinical interests include cancer in the elderly, new drug development, supportive and palliative care. He has authored or coauthored numerous articles, book chapters, and monographs with a focus on aspects of cancer treatment in elderly patients. He is member of the editorial board of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology, and reviewer for several peerreviewed journals journals. He is member of various professional organizations including the European Society of Medical Oncology. Gilbert Zulian Hôpital de Bellerive, Geneva University Hospitals, Collonge-Bellerive, Switzerland Gilbert Zulian is head of the division of palliative medicine and chief of the department of readaptation and palliative medicine at Geneva University Hospitals. He is senior lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva University. Gilbert Zulian holds board specialties of the Swiss Medical Federation in internal medicine, geriatrics and oncology. He is member of the board of the Swiss Cancer League. He is editor-in-chief of the Revue Internationale de Soins Palliatifs, member of the editorial board of the Revue Suisse de Médecine, of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology and of the Journal d’Onco-Gériatrie. He is a regular collaborator/author of scientific publications and peer-reviewed journals dealing with cancer in the elderly and palliative medicine.
