Cremer Care has introduced its CremerCOOR line of naturally derived, functional ingredients targeted at makers of sustainable personal care products. Depending on their composition, CremerCOOR products can serve as emollients, emulsifiers, solubilizers, viscosity enhancers, surfactants, moisturizers or antimicrobial agents. The ingredients are derived mainly from vegetable fatty acids esterified with glycerine, polyglycerines or other vegetable-based alcohols. Many products have organic certification, the company says. CremerCOOR will be manufactured at Cremer Care’s associated manufacturing site Prignitzer Chemie at Wittenberge in Germany. This has already begun to expand its production capacity in order to meet customer’s demands. It is currently building a new state-ofthe-art multipurpose production facility for fatty acid esters.

Unilever and Procter & Gamble fined over detergent price cartel Consumer goods giants Unilever and Procter & Gamble have been slapped with fines totalling €315.2 M (£280.5 M) after they colluded to fix the price of washing machine detergent powder. The European Commission said the two companies and rival Henkel shared information about pricing in eight countries when they worked together on an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of their products. The Commission fined Anglo-Dutch company Unilever, whose European brands include Surf and Omo, €104 M and US group P&G, which makes Ariel, Tide, Gain and Era, €211.2 M after reductions for cooperating with the investigation. Germany’s Henkel was let off a fine after it alerted the European Commission to the cartel in 2008. The cartel existed for at least three years between Jan 2002 and Mar 2005, fixing prices of powder detergents in Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands. The three firms are the biggest powder laundry detergent makers in Europe with a total market share of 71%. P&G was the market leader with a 33% share of the $4.6 bn European market in 2010.
