Renewables market growth
Boeing sells Spokane plant
According to its producers, the CD is an invaluable source of information for all composite producers and users, is faster to access than the tnternet, and more comprehensive than traditional industry directories, and can help companies find the right products for their applications.
The GLOBAL offshore renewable energy market could be worth £8 billion by 2007, according to a report published by the UK government, which highlights the UK as the next major growth market for wind energy.
The CD has links to company websites and it lists relevant company contact details. Information can be searched for by company name or vm product description and is updated every two years.
Renewables UK and estimates that annual global offshore wind installations will exceed 900 MW by 2007; and though Denmark has the current lead with a forecast of 300 MW over the period 2001-2003, the removal of government subsidies means the UK will become the next major growth market.
TRIUMPH GROUP Inc, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA, is buying the assets of Boeing's Spokane, Washington, operation. The Spokane facility produces aircraft parts made of composites and thermoplastics, including floor panels, air control system ducts and nonstructural composite flight deck components. The plant employs around 400 people. As part of the deal, Triumph and Boeing will enter an eight-year single-source supply agreement for the products currently made at Spokane. The Spokane business is projected to add around $60 million of revenue to 1kiumph's fiscal 2003 figures and be accretive to earnings.

DUCOMMUN AeroStructures, USA, has won a US$7 million contract from Carson Helicopters lnc to build the new Carson Composite Main Rotor Blade which can be used on all Sikorsky S-61 helicopters. Carson, a Pennsylvaniabased airlifting firm, says the blades allow S-61s to lift more and fly faster than existing metal blades, and have twice the service life. The blades are currently undergoing FAA certification and will be offered as a retrofit product. There are five blades per helicopter. Over 600 S-61s are available for retrofit worldwide. The work will be done at DAS' facility in Monrovia, California. Deliveries will start this year.
