Letters to the editor

Urges continued support for building fund At the 22nd Congress in Dallas, we were privileged to witness the enthusiasm of the delegates regarding the building of an education building at our own National Headquarters in Denver, Colo. The challenge we issued to the chapters was accepted and supported. It was obvious that the need for this facility was recognized by the tangible evidence of cash, checks, and pledges given by the delegations attending the Congress. Although we have realized a portion of our goals, we must not lose our enthusiasm. Many chapters have plans for annual events to raise monies for the educational building such as fashion shows and bazaars. Money received from workshops can be channeled into this fund. We have worked to return the operating room experience to the basic education curriculum. This is a slow process and we do not feel we can wait for the educators to devise means of producing professional nurses who will specialize in the operating room. For 22 years operating room nurses have shown their concern and had the fortitude to be leaders in the nursing community. Here is one more opportunity for us to show what we can do. But it will take determination, planning, support, and money. We would like to see some follow-up in the Journal regarding the education building

fund, as well as some ideas of how chapters are working to raise money for this endeavor. By pooling our ideas we can help each other attain our goals. Our original hope was $2 per member. With 22,850 members, we should realize $45,000 this first year. Wouldn’t it be fine if our Board of Directors could report the attainment of this goal at our next Congress? We have a dream-it is time to act and make this dream a reality. We have done it before and we can do it again.

Georgeann C Lancerini 0R supervisor Topeka, Kan Editor’s note: As of Nov 6, 1975, members have contributed $15,685 to the education building fund.

Correction In the’November “Letters to the editor” column, an author was erroneously cited. The name Arthur C Greyton should be Arthur C Guyton, author of Textbook of Medical Physiology. The textbook was suggested as reference for those interested in obtaining certification.
