MARKEl-S MASTERRATCHES: STUDYREPORT

A study report by Applied Market Information of Bristol (U.K.) entitled: "Thermoplastic Masterbatches in Western Europe l9871991” predicts that masterbatch production will achieve a growth rate of 2.7% a year over the period 1986 to 1992. Growth rates for bulk polymers over the same period are estimated at 1.9% a year. In 1986 250,000 tonnes of masterbatch were produced in Europe with 22% exported overseas. By 1992 production will rise to 284,000 tonnes but exports will remain stationary at 56,000 tonnes. The study also focuses on the structure of the masterbatch industry. One conclusion is that in the colour masterbatch market integrated producers will continue to expand their market share by acquiring existing independent operations or by establishing their own local production units.
