Seal assembly and method of manufacture Applicant: Federal-Mogul Corporation, USA A rotary shaft seal intended as an alternative to a PTFE seal for automotive applications is described in this patent. A flexible member of elastomer material supports the plastic seal element. This is made particularly flexible to compensate for the relatively rigid plastic. The plastic may be imidized, semi-crystalline, or amorphous bearing
grade thermoplastics such as nylon, acetal, polyethylene terepthalate (PET-P), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polyamide-imide (PAI), or any other materials having similar properties. The sealing section also has a helical screw in the bore to provide an adequate dynamic seal. Patent number: WO 2006/023653 Inventors: D.M. Toth and F. Hatch Publication date: 2 March 2006
Method of manufacturing metal gasket Applicants: Nippon Leakless Industry Co Ltd and Honda Motor Co Ltd, Japan This patent describes a method of manufacturing a metal gasket such as a cylinder head gasket that also has an elastomer layer. The rubber coating layer is applied to the surface of a sheet metal through a priming and an adhesive agent. There is an annular bead surrounding fluid passage holes. The method is characterized in that a sheet metal having low temperature age hardening
properties is used as the substrate. The priming is applied to the sheet metal of the substrate and dried at a temperature lower than the low temperature age hardening temperature. The annular blade is formed on the sheet metal by pressing, and the sheet metal is age-hardened while the primer is baked at the low temperature age hardening temperature of the sheet metal of the substrate. Glass substrate storage case with seal Applicant: Nippon Valqua Industries Ltd, Japan The full title of this patent is: ‘Glass substrate storage case, glass substrate exchange device, glass substrate management device, glass substrate distribution method, seal member, and
seal structure using the seal member.’ It describes a glass case structure which has a seal fitted to one of the glass plates of the cover. Patent number: WO 2006/028228 Inventors: T. Umeda et al. Publication date: 16 March 2006
Vacuum cleaner with dust chamber seal The plastic rotary shaft seal described in WO 2006/023653 has a flexible elastomeric member to provide the flexibility required to cater for shaft misalignment so that relatively hard and more wear resistant or economic plastic materials can be used for the dynamic seal.
Static seal Applicant: Federal Mogul Sealing Systems, France The invention relates to a static seal such as a seal plate. A layer of elastomer is cold-deposited on at least one face of the support plate and subsequently shaped, with the optional formation of threads or ribs in a heated mold, which is also
used for curing. Elastomer does not cover the entire surface of the support plate and the non-covered zones perform a function other than sealing. Patent number: WO 2006/024735 Inventors: P. Rogeon, B. Lambert and S. Lamouche Publication date: 9 March 2006
Applicant: BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, Germany This patent describes a seal for the dust bag chamber of a vacuum
cleaner that remains effective under vacuum conditions. Patent number: WO 2006/021486 Inventors: R. Illig and T. Seith Publication date: 2 March 2006
Mechanically assembled heat exchanger and gasket Applicant: Valeo Systemes Thermiques, France This invention relates to a mechanically assembled automotive heat exchanger. A collector plate is pierced with holes that are bordered by collars in order to receive tubes with the insertion of a gasket that forms a sleeve on
each tube. An annular end of the sleeve extends beyond the collar. The extended sleeve is designed such that on assembly the sleeve is compressed into contact with the tube. Patent number: WO 2006/024734 Inventors: D. Frasca et al. Publication date: 9 March 2006

Applicant: Autoliv Devlopment AB, Sweden This patent describes a design of electropyrotechnic initiator for a gas generator as used in the field of automobile safety. The base body contains electrical contacts to initiate the gas generator which fits within the top of
the base. The patented device uses an integral seal between the base and the body in preference to the separate Oring used previously. Patent number: WO 2006/021491 Inventors: T. Le Gall, B. Martin and F. Gueret Publication date: 2 March 2006
