[email protected] (R. Muscalu-Nagy). Successful intensive farming of northern pike depends on good oxygen management, therefore is important to determine DO consumption for this specie. Trials for monitoring the oxygen consumption were conducted at four water temperature levels (17 ◦ C, 20 ◦ C, 23 ◦ C and 26 ◦ C) at three different sizes (10.65 g, 33.625 g and 101.5 g) each in two conditions: before feeding and after feeding. The trials were conducted each time in the same tank with predetermined volume, using water each time from the same source but thermo-controlled. The experimental tank was insulated after fish stocking and DO drop was monitored. DO range at unfed pikes from 328.77 to 620.69 mg/l (10.65 g), from 90.53 to 175.90 mg/l (33.625 g) and from 82.54 to 151.26 mg/l (101.5 g). Meanwhile the fed pikes showed the following variations: 472.65 to 812.03 mg/l, 150.73 to 270.68 mg/l and 140.62 to 240.80 mg/l. It is clear that high temperatures and feeding activity are increasing the consumption of DO at all sizes. The reproduction activity process represents the basis of cattle development, livestock increasing, quality improvement, milk yield and economic efficiency increasing. The researches in the present paper were carried out in Vrancea region, in the south-east of Romania, on a 1000 Holstein Frisian cows livestock, in different lactations, raised in different location. There were analyzed the main reproduction activity indicators resulted following the artificial insemination biotechnology activity: the age at first calving, number of inseminations per one pregnancy, the fecundity index, the length of service-period and calving interval. The primary data were statistically processed, being calculated the main statistic population parameters: average, its error, standard deviation, coefficient of variability. There were recorded the data following every pregnancy, from the first one to the third and there was established the moment of the best results. The obtained results represented key-points in technologic flow optimization of the artificial insemination biotechnology in the studied region, having in view the sustainable agriculture development principles. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2012.07.063

[email protected] (D. T˘ap˘aloag˘a). Starting from the fact that the morfometric researches are not too many and also not very diversified, we have proposed the comparative assessment of bull semen with the aid of morphometry, for assuring the sustainable animals farm development. Having in view this proposal there were made samples from 200 bull ejaculates. There was setting off animal groups depending on different factors and there were used random images of the samples with the aid of a specialized soft. For the special sperm files there were determined the indices: total length of spermatozoa, head length, head width and tail length. The analyzed data were statistically processed, being recorded the main population parameters. The results recorded in the present paper were compared with the ones in the Romanian and world special literature. Finally, upon all the results’ interpretation regarding the morph metric features analyzed within the special sperm files excepting the tail length, all the values were higher and with fewer abnormalities in adult reproducers. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2012.07.062

[email protected] (T. Karan). Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne zoonotic viral disease threatening human health. CCHF is caused by a Nairovirus (Family: Bunyaviridae). Ticks play major role in the transmission of the virus to humans. Numerous CCHF cases have been reported from Turkey since 2002. Most of the CCHF cases were associated with tick bites which increased between 2002 and 2009 in the Kelkit Valley Region including Tokat Province. Despite the numerous ticks bite cases, there is no enough information about the prevalence of CCHFV in Ixodid ticks in the region. In this study, a tick survey was performed to investigate prevalence of CCHFV in Ixodid ticks collected from humans during the 2008–2009 outbreaks in Tokat Province. A total of 165 ticks were tested for the presence of the CCHFV by RT-PCR. Results of RT-PCR tests and sequencing showed that 45 (27%) out of 165 ticks were CCHF positive. These results indicate that ticks of the region have great potential for transmitting the CCHFV to humans. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2012.07.064
