Sandvik sells stake in French hardmetal producer as Q2 bites of 2002. AIR Products and Chemicals of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania has purchased a small equity stake in Nanotechnologies of Austin, Texas, and signed a joint development agreement. Nanotechnologies has three patents on a plasmabased process for synthesising nanopowders. The company makes alumina, titania, aluminum, copper, silver, gold, zirconia and niobia spherical particles 8-80nm. The agreement with Air Products calls for exclusive commercial development in selected markets.

Vehicle production in North America declines. ACCORDING to Ward's Reports, vehicle production in North America - the US, Canada and Mexico - through the first week in September slipped 4.1 per cent off 2002's pace. The estimat-
