Jacobs to work on Singapore refinery upgrade

acobs Engineering Group Inc has secured a contract from Singapore Refining Co Private Ltd (SRC), a joint venture between Singapore Petroleum Co and Chevron, to provide services for an upgrade project at SRC’s refinery in Jurong Island, Singapore. Jacobs is providing concept definition (pre-FEED) and front-end engineering design (FEED) services for the upgrade of the refinery’s naphtha splitter unit (NSU), naphtha hydrotreating unit (NHT) and catalytic reformer unit (CRU).
and expanded a large Northeast Ohio power plant’s boiler feedwater treatment system, doubling capacity to 800 gallons per minute (GPM). PWT has upgraded the power plant to a modern ultrafiltration system, which saves money and improves the quality of the feed stream. This is the third large power plant project that Dallas-based PWT has designed and built in 2016. “The ageing systems in these power plants just have to be replaced,” explained Marc Stevens, PWT’s president. “The benefit is that new technology brings significant improvements in water quality and reduction in operational costs.” “The key is ultrafiltration,” added Stevens. “The latest technology costs less to install and run, and because it can also remove particles as small as a virus, it provides a superior, pretreated feed stream to final stage processes such as reverse osmosis and deionization.”

ecnicas Reunidas SA and Samsung C&T EC UK have selected Amec Foster Wheeler to design and supply a circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) steam generator for the Tees Renewable Energy Plant, in Teesside, UK for MGT Teesside Ltd. MGT Teesside has also awarded a long term service agreement contract to Amec Foster Wheeler for boiler maintenance. Amec Foster Wheeler will design and supply the 299 MWe (gross) unit of the baseload CFB power plant including auxiliary equipment and onsite technical advisory services for construction and supervisory services for commissioning. Once it reaches its full 299 MW capacity in 2020, the boiler will be the world’s largest CFB boiler utilising only biomass as fuel.

eolia Water Technologies has completed a high pressure boiler make-up water treatment plant for Multifuel Energy Ltd’s new £300 million power station at Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire, UK. The station can generate 68MW of low carbon electricity using a range of fuels including municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste and waste wood. The water treatment plant was designed to treat a blend of borehole and towns mains water. It consists of two streams, each capable of producing up to 8m3/h of high purity demineralised water, which can operate as duty/standby.
Amec Foster Wheeler secures nuclear effluent design, build contract

mec Foster Wheeler is to provide a new effluent treatment plant for the Dounreay nuclear site in Scotland under a £7 million contract.
The scope of work includes concept and detailed design; production of the safety case and supporting environmental documentation; manufacture of the modular process plant, offsite testing, delivery to the Dounreay site and onsite installation and commissioning. All liquid effluent from the new plant will be managed, processed and discharged by pipeline to the existing low level liquid effluent treatment plant.

GE MBR technology helps US paper mill reuse 300 000 gallons of water daily

E says that Doubletree Paper Mills in Gila Bend, Arizona, USA is saving 300 000 gallons of water daily by using its water reuse technology. With GE’s ZeeWeed membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology, the paper mill has doubled its paper production capacity without impacting the limited treatment capacity of the city’s existing municipal wastewater treatment plant. Gila Bend is a small desert town with limited wastewater treatment infrastructure. Over the past year, Doubletree Paper Mills has been treating and reusing its process water, reducing water consumption and preserving the limited capacity of the city’s wastewater treatment plant for its residents. Prior to the installation of GE’s ZeeWeed MBR technology, the paper mill was unable to increase its paper manufacturing capacity due to the limitations of the existing city water treatment plant. By reusing its process water, Doubletree Paper Mills has been able to double paper production without impacting on the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Doubletree Paper Mills is GE’s first MBR wastewater reuse project for a paper mill in the US.
