Ingersoll-Dresser Pump C o m p a n y ' s facility at Buenos Aires in Argentina and two of its plants in the USA at T a n e y t o w n in Maryland a n d Hastings in Nebraska have all achieved n e w certifications to the ISO 9001 quality standard. Since it was i n t r o d u c e d in 1994, the importance of the IS() 9001 standard has g r o w n well b e y o n d its roots in Europe to b e c o m e the i n t e r n a t i o n a l standard for quality systems r e c o g n i z e d worldwide. More and more companies in N o r t h a n d South America a n d Asia Pacific are seeing certification to the ISO 9001 standard as a prerequisite for m a n u f a c t u r i n g p r o d u c t s for the global market. The ISO 9001 certification for the Buenos Aires operation followed a quality audit carried out by Det Norske Veritas and is a full c e r t i f i c a t i o n c o v e r i n g every aspect of the business, from sales to field services. A bulk order for 16 NOWA horizontal end-suction pumps w o r t h £12 000 has b e e n supplied by Sterling Fluid Systems, for use in a general refurbishm e n t of p u m p s at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The n e w p u m p s have mainly b e e n used to replace existing p u m p s tbr m e d i u m pressure hot w a t e r c i r c u l a t i o n in various health care duties at the 600-bed unit, w h i c h works as a teaching hospital in association with D u n d e e University. Constructed from cast iron with mechanical shaft seals, the p u m p s vary in capacity from 1.9 m:~/h to 65.4 mS/h, with differ-
