DSP Systems of the USA has updated its VAP64 fixed-point mini array processor for VMEbus. The VAP64B remains totally compatible with its predecessor, says DSP, but provides three further commands. The extra commands on the VAP64B are: array multiply, which provides the dot product of a complex or real array, double precision power magnitude calcuiations; and block floating point FFT, which increases the useful

dynamic range of fast Fourier transforms. The array processor will perform IOM operations per second, has a 50 kHz realtime bandwidth and includes selftesting capability, says the manufacturer. modelling system US solid developer Cubicomp has decided to polarize its product range into two new families: Modelmaker for CADCAM and CAE applications, and Picturemaker for use in video and film animation. Both systems use the IBM PC as a host computer. Three models make up the Modelmaker series The Modelmaker/500 system (US price three$11 900) provides dimensional surface-shaded models and can display up to 4096 colours simultaneously (from a palette of 16.8M colours). The Modelmaker/ ($4950) and /IO0 ($3250) models are software-only which products provide, respectively, surfaceshaded displays using up to 256 colours, and three-dimensional wire-frame models using 16 colours. Picturemaker gives wrreframe models using up to 65 536 colours at a time. It may also be used, says the manufacturer, for creating three-dimensional titles, logos and computer-generated story boards. A motion scripting feature is designed to allow instant previewing before an animated sequence is recorded. Picturemaker uses Cubicomp’s CS/l 6 16.bit frame buffer and is priced at $24950 In the USA.
