ortex Companies has recently signed North American Pipeline Services Llc (NAP) as a new licensed installer of its Quadex Lining System (QLS), which is designed for the structural rehabilitation of large-diameter pipe, culvert and other non-round infrastructure. According to Vortex Companies – which delivers advanced trenchless technologies and turnkey services to cost-effectively renew water, sewer and industrial infrastructure – the QLS system is a unique combination of installation equipment, paired with GeoKrete® Geopolymer, considered by many as the purest geopolymer mortar on the market. Mike Vellano, CEO, Vortex Companies, commented: ‘The increased acceptance of geopolymer lining as a preferred method of trenchless rehabilitation is driving interest from contractors across the country. We are committed to working with partners like NAP, which are committed to quality, customer service, innovation and teamwork.’ NAP’s owner Tom Mullen, added: ‘There are several geopolymer products on the market, but none that perform like GeoKrete or can be applied with the consistency that the QLS system offers.’ ‘The addition of QLS enables us to offer a proven and more cost-effective method of large-diameter pipe rehabilitation, rounding out our trenchless offering, which already includes inspection, pipe cleaning, manhole rehabilitation, cured-in-place pipe repairs and grouting.’ QLS’s design and small construction footprint bodes well for NAP which routinely works on project sites in congested areas and older neighbourhoods. Vellano continued: ‘We designed this system to be versatile, which enables our licensees to bid on projects in areas where traditional contractors simply cannot reach or access.’ NAP also offers other services, involving UV spot repairs, and the use of mechanical joint seals and sleeves. al Seal Engineering Inc, a US company that provides custom-engineered sealing, connecting, conducting and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding products, has announced that it has opened an office in Cardiff, Wales. The new location will serve as a centre for sales and consultative engineering for the UK and Ireland. He says that the Cardiff location will enable the company to provide a higher level of service to OEMs and tier suppliers in the region’s growing medical, aerospace and defence sectors. Soede commented: ‘Having a stronger Bal Seal Engineering presence in this area is certainly part of our overall growth plan.’ ‘But what we are really excited about is the ability to bring our products and people closer to where they are needed. Lanxess completes sale of Arlanxeo to Saudi Aramco

G

ermany’s Lanxess Ag has completed the sale of its remaining interest in the rubber company Arlanxeo to Saudi Aramco. All relevant antitrust authorities have granted the necessary approvals for the transaction announced in 2018. Last year Sealing Technology (October 2018, page 3) reported that the speciality chemicals company was planning to sell its remaining 50% stake in Arlanxeo to its joint-venture partner Saudi Aramco, a national petroleum and natural gas firm based in Saudi Arabia. The remaining stake in Arlanxeo has been transferred to the former joint-venture partner Saudi Aramco and, in return, Lanxess received proceeds of approximately E1.4 billion. Lanxess says that the proceeds from this trans-

action strengthen its financial base and significantly reduce its net financial liabilities. Arlanxeo was founded on 1 April 2016, as a joint venture between Lanxess and Saudi Aramco. The company, which is based in Maastricht, The Netherlands, generated sales of around E3.2 billion in 2017, and employs about 3800 people at 20 production sites in nine countries. It produces high-performance rubber for use in, for example, the automotive, construction industry, and oil and gas industries. According to Lanxess, the transfer of the synthetic rubber business into the joint venture Arlanxeo was the foundation for its strategic realignment. Since then it has been focusing on growth in the speciality chemicals markets and has made various acquisitions in this area.
