Source: EE: Evaluation Engineering v 37 n 3 Mar 1998. A. Vernon Nelson Associates Nokomis FL USA. p 40, 43-45 ISSN: 0149-0370 CODEN: EVENAE Publication Year: 1998 Abstract: Custom application software is developed for large data acquisition systems. Most of these systems use propriety data acquisition hardware that is deficient to standards. A data acquisition system is developed so that a major jet-aircraft manufacturer can move to a VXI-based data acquisition system for its engine-development test cells while using application software. The system requirements and system configuration are presented. A. Vernon Nelson Associates Nokomis FL USA. p 24, 26, 29 ISSN: 0149-0370 CODEN: EVENAE Publication Year: 1998 Abstract: Testing electronics products, such as cellular phones, has become more and more complex, often requiring longer test times and sophisticated test equipment. Manufacturers of cellular phones can take advantage of a single multitasking computer to run multiple sets of tests equipment. The IEEE 488 bus can provide simultaneous testing of cellular phones. An operational cellular-phone test platform demonstrates how multiple test instruments and a multiple-up operator interface can run simultaneously and asynchronously on one computer. III; Allen, Ben; Stokey, Roger; Simpson, Raymond W. Source: Sea Technology v 39 n 2 Feb 1998. Compass Publ Inc Arlington VA USA. p 65-75 ISSN: 0093-3651 CODEN: SEATAD Publication Year: 1998 Abstract: An electronic still camera ŽESC. was developed for deep-ocean imaging. Images from the ESC are displayed in real time on PC and video monitors while simultaneously

recorded to DAT tape and laser disk. Goals were established for the design of the ESC to ensure smooth integration of the new camera into the existing architecture of the Towed Oceanographic Survey Systems ŽTOSS. sled. One of these was that it fit into the 6.375-inch inside diameter housing allowing the ESC to be installed in existing mounting locations and taking advantage of the existing dome port design. Another consideration imposed on the TOSS telemetry system concerned the methods used by the ESC to send images and receive commands. In English 2 Refs. Source: Sensors ŽPeterborough, NH. v 15 n 3 Mar 1998. Helmers Publ Inc Peterborough NH USA. 6p ISSN: 0746-9462 CODEN: SNSRES Publication Year: 1998 Abstract: The Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. interface team are developing a data acquisition ŽDA. system for the Boeing 777. The interface team envisioned a smart sensor system with multiple buses installed on a test object or airplane and connected to a concentrator or hub at the test site. A single high-speed cable or fiber-optic link will provide the interface to the host computer located in a control room remote from the test site. Source: Proceedings of the 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics, ISCE’97 Dec 2-4 1997 Singapore. Sponsored by: IEEE Piscataway NJ USA. p 292-295 CODEN: 002828 Publication Year: 1997 Abstract: An Internet Speech Gateway Server is proposed to integrate the Internet and Public Switched Telephone Network ŽPSTN. to support speech communication among users using conventional telephones connected to PSTN. Each gateway comprises a hardware interface connected to the server computer and a set of server software. The potential of an Internet speech gateway circumventing long distance call rates is certainly appealing as one can talk to someone on the other side of the world for as long as desired at no more than the cost of the local Internet access and connectivity charges.
