Lumina Royal product range offers pigments with high brilliance, chromaticity, and purity, allowing customers to produce attractive designs in difference color shades. Available in interior and exterior grades, the pigments can be applied in powder coatings, automotive coatings, and others. For unique mirror and liquid metal effects, BASF offers Metasheen vacuum metallized aluminum pigment (VMP). The product generates excellent reflectivity as it has exceptionally thin and smooth flakes. With its bright silver shade, the standard Metasheen 71 line is much recommended for automotive exterior and interior applications and for general industrial uses.

PPG Launches HOBA PURAIR Internal Powder Liner for Aluminum Aerosol Cans

Wageningen University Researchers Develop Polymer for Water-resistant Coatings

PPG Industries' packaging coatings business has announced that it will feature HOBA PURAIR coating, an innovative bisphenol A non-intent (BPA-NI) powder liner for the internal protection of aluminum aerosol cans, during the Aerosol and Dispensing Forum in Paris on 3-4 Feb 2016. The product from the PPG HOBA Purair brand contains no solvent. It helps can makers meet environmental and sustainable technology goals such as reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and providing high utilization and recycling capability. PPG's packaging coatings business developed the HOBA Purair powder liner in collaboration with its industrial coatings business. The product offers good smoothness at low thicknesses as well as excellent coating flexibility, and it can be used in most existing application processes. The HOBA Purair internal powder liner is the latest addition to PPG's complete range of newgeneration monobloc aerosol and tube coatings designed to meet regulatory requirements while offering high performance and a wide range of filling compatibility. The line also includes HOBA MAX (PPG8900 series), HOBA VCL and HOBA VGL (PPG2845 series) coatings.

A new polymer on the basis of a trick used by mussels has been developed by a Wageningen PhD student. The polymer should be able to let water-based paint flow better and produce water-resistant coatings. The student was able to create a polymer that reacts in water. One of the requirements for the toughening characteristic of this polymer is the deacidification of its surroundings. This proof of principle offers a lead of departure for the paint industry to improve water based paints. The reactive polymer has the potency for application in other situations. For instance, mussel-inspired chemistry is suitable for the creation of antimicrobial coatings. The research is made possible by AkzoNobel.

Arkema Introduces New Rilsan Fine Powders Grade for Outdoor Furniture The Rilsan fine powders product line has expanded its range of bio-based polyamide coating powders for the outdoor furniture market. Along with Rilsan T Grey 9102 MAC and Rilsan ES 9132 MAC, Arkema now offers two grey-colored (RAL 7021) grades designed for fluidized bed dipping and electrostatic spraying. These two grades were formulated to offer outstanding UV-resistance, while keeping core properties brought by Rilsan fine powders PA11 coatings. These properties

C OAT I N G S include long-term resistance to extreme maritime and industrial environments; antigraffiti properties; fire resistance; electrical insulation; and chemical resistance. Outstanding mechanical properties are also inherited, which include impact resistance, flexibility, abrasion resistance, a unique grip and warm-to-the-touch feel. As a thermoplastic powder for coatings, Rilsan fine powders offer an exceptional choice in processing methods, which allows coating complex parts with various geometries. Combining beauty and function, Rilsan polyamide 11 coatings offer a solution for the most demanding applications. The Rilsan brand has serves multiple industries requiring metal protection, such as automotive, oil and gas, and fluid transfer. Rilsan fine powders are derived from castor oil, a 100% vegetable, non-toxic and renewable resource. These products combine eco-responsibility with outstanding performance.

Green Coating Repels Water Better than Fluorocarbons Researchers at the University of Swansea and Rice University created a superhydrophobic material containing aluminum oxide nanoparticles coated with highly branched hydrocarbon chains. The coating is cheap, nontoxic and can repel water better than other fluorocarbon-based materials. It can be applied to surfaces through spray or spin-coating methods.
