IWw chairman Dr Eric Flothwell has resigned as Chairman of The Filtration Society due to personal and other business commitments. He has contributea widely to Society activities and his work has been much valued. The new Chairman of the Society is Robert Feather, who has been active in the Society for some seven years as a co-opted member of Council and more laterly as Vice Chairman. He is a Director of Uplands Press Ltd which publishes Filtration % Separatfon amongst other technical books and journals. A qualified metailurgist and chartered engineer he commenced his career working for BICC, and then joined the then British Iron and Steel Federation as an adviser on steel industry development projects. Mowing into journalism he joined Steel Times as assis?ant editor, and has successively been editor of The British Found~~~n, F~rc~asi~g & Supply ~affage~en~, Ceramic Industries Jou~n~f and Liquids Handling. Married with two children, his interests include chess, tennis and music.

@ouncilchanges A number of changes-have occured related to the Society’s Council membershIp: 0 FL A. Wenman has resigned from Council as he is moving to America, and III John Warden, of Warren Spring has been co-opted on to Councit.
The Filtration Society wil be represented at the American Filtration Society’s Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, by Robert Feather, Chairman, Peter Swift, Hon. Treasurer, and Derek Purchas, member of Council. The Meeting runs over five days from March 18 to 22 with a Tutorial Session on the Sunday and a full programme of papers with the theme ‘Filtration and Separation - providing solutions to the technical problems of the 1990s.’ In addition to his continuing role of cementing relationships between the UK and overseas societies, Robert Feather will be acquainting companies in the American filtration industry with the opportunities that are emerging in the European market in the run up to 1992. He would be interested to hear from any European companies wanting to set up joint ventures or reciprocal trading arrangements with American companies or acting as agents for them and from American companies looking for similar opportunities in Europe.

This year’s big international filtration event will be the Vth World Filtration Congress, to be organised by the French Filtration Society and to be held in Nice June 5-8. A very ambitious programme of papers has been arranged, and details are given in this;issue. Included with this issue also is the official programme of the conference, complete with booking form. A large exhibition will be held in conjuction with the Congress, under the name Interfiltra. and a oreview of what will be 06 show is also published in this issue. _ March/April
