based rheology modifiers for turbid and transparent liquid detergents. The new Sokalan AT 120 provides a high level of thickening even when only small quantities are used. BASF is adding a low molecular weight modified polymer, Luvipur 10, to its range of active ingredients for liquid detergents [Focus on Surfactants, December 2008]. BASF is extending its range of hydrophobing agents with the addition of the wax emulsion Mincor W 500. The product is waterbased and free of fluorine-containing hydrocarbons or silicone oil. The new product protects susceptible surfaces such as metal, glass, wood and ceramics and has the effect of repelling water and dirt. Its main use is in automotive polish products. BASF also has a new type of polymer for shampoos and conditioners, Luviquat Sensation. The polymer is supplied in an aqueous solution and is especially easy to process. With it, hair is easy to comb after washing, though still full of volume, and feels naturally soft after drying. Press release from: BASF SE, Germany, website: http://www.basf.com (9 Oct 2008)
