Centrifugal screener avoids contamination with frequent screen changes Kason Corporation has developed Centri-Sifter, a new medium capacity centrifugal screener featuring a cantilevered shaft with two, externally-mounted bearings between the screening chamber and motor drive, allowing all internals to slide freely from the shaft end for cleaning, screen changes or inspection. Opening a hinged door at the discharge end of the screening chamber allows a retainer plate, screen cylinder, and helical paddle/feed screw assembly to be removed in one minute, according to the company. The new screener is intended for food, dairy and pharmaceutical applications requiring thorough wash-down, as well as other applications involving frequent screen changes, inspections or runs of multiple materials where crosscontamination is of concern. The screen works by gravity feeding dry or moist bulk solid material into the feed inlet and redirecting it into the cylindrical sifting chamber by

means of a feed screw. Rotating helical paddles within the chamber continuously propel the material against the screen, while the resultant, centrifugal force on the particles accelerates

Water quality sensor can work unattended In-Situ Inc has developed the Aqua TROLL 200, a multiparameter water quality sensor designed for long periods of unattended monitoring. The Aqua TROLL 200 is suitable for use in harsh environments for applications such as borehole monitoring or detecting salt water contamination in aquifers and waste water systems. The sensor is designed to accurately measure pressure, temperature and conductivity and derived parameters (level, total dissolved solids, salinity) and can output results to a variety of data retrieval options – telemetry, laptop or PDA. The active components and lithium battery pack are welded inside a 18.7 mm diameter corrosion resistant, titanium

sensor body that can pass freely down a 25 mm bore pipe. The lithium battery has a guaranteed life of five years or 200,000 sensor readings after which the sensor head can be refurbished and re-sealed with a new battery. The sensor also features a titanium ‘balanced’ fourelectrode conductivity cell whose design gives freedom from external interferences and automatically compensates for electrode fouling. When the Aqua TROLL 200 is used for depth measurement, a permanent vent to the surface incorporated in the cabling provides automatic compensation for changes in barometric pressure. It is calibrated and validated against NIST traceable standards. www.in-situ.com

them through the apertures. In addition to sifting and scalping of dry bulk materials, the screener can break up soft agglomerates and/or dewater moist solids or slurries.

Crossflow filter for latex microparticle processing Mar Cor Purification’s crossflow tangential flow hollow fibre filter is now suitable for the processing of latex micro-particles application, the company says. The hollow fibre crossflow filter incorporates many thousands of hollow fibres with fibre IDs of 0.28 microns and larger to process fluids down the centre of the fibre. A portion of the liquid is retained, with solids greater than the micron cut off. This technology is better for processing

fragile cell material and high levels of solids, while maintaining high flux rates because of the very smooth inner wall of the fibre. “Mar Cor has expanded the crossflow product due to numerous requests by researchers to develop higher flow products of the line due to superior performance results experienced with lower flowrate devices,” said Chris Fournier, Mar Cor’s vice president of marketing. www.mcpur.com

Micro-environment venting media Donaldson Membranes has launched a full platform of microenvironment venting media products featuring the company’s Tetratex ePTFE microporous membranes laminated to a variety of backing substrates. The media, which can be used for air filtration with high particle

removal efficiency, is suitable for venting applications that require simultaneous pressure equilibration and gas exchange. It can repel water and oil and regulate moisture vapour transmission rates. www.donaldson.com
