Petroleum waxes are converted to high viscosity index lubricants by a synergistic process that employs two catalysts. The viscosity index and yield are greater for the product of the integrated double catalyst process than they are for the product of either of the catalysts alone. The wax feed, which may be pretreated by mild hydrocracking, is first subjected to isomerization in the presence of hydrogen over a low-acidity zeolite isomerization catalyst, which effects a preferential isomerization of the paraffin components in the feed to less waxy high viscosity index isoparaffins. The catalyst is preferably a noble metal containing zeolite-6 that contains boron as a framework component of the zeolite to give a low alpha value, typically below 20. The product of the isomerization process is then contacted with a shape-selective catalyst to reduce the pour point further. Preferably zeolite ZSM-22, ZSM-23, or ZSM-35 is used. The shape-selective catalyst preferably contains noble metals such as Pd or pt.

Laundry detergent granules containing enzyme, having good storage stability, solubility, and detergency, are manufactured in a dry pelletization process by extruding a crystalline aluminosilicate and enzyme mixture containing water-soluble organic binders. The detergent granules contain 5-80% of the aluminosilicate, which is uniformly dispersed.

The cost of separating pxylene from other xylene isomers and C, aromatics by adsorption on zeolitic molecular sieves is reduced by the use of certain relatively high boiling desorbents, including 1,4-diisopropylbenzene. Preferably the adsorbent is an X zeolite containing barium or both barium and potassium ions at exchangeable cationic sites. The pxylene components are selectively adsorbed onto the adsorbent. The nonadsorbed feed is then removed from the adsorbent, and the pxylene is recovered by desorption. Any C, aromatic hydrocarbons and the other xylene isomers in the raffinate can be separated from the desorbent by fractionation of the raffinate, and the desorbent can be recycled to the process.
