Power-core advantages in pump applications The impellers used in our tests were cast net-shape from a proprietary, non-hygroscopic cast nylon called Intech Power-Core. The only material of its kind, Power-Core offers a variety of physical property advantages in marine and industrial pump applications, including: Corrosion and chemical resistance Power-Core does not corrode in salt water, waste water or distilled water. It also resists most industrial chemicals as well as chemical exposures common in the oil-and-gas industry. Cavitation and erosion resistance In testing, Power-Core impellers suffered no cavitation wear under conditions that simulate high-pressure pumps (Figures 1 and 2). Weight reduction Intech Power-Core impellers about seven times lighter than comparable
steel or bronze for a corresponding reduction in moment of inertia. As a result, pumps with Power-Core impellers require less energy to start and to run. The weight reduction also reduces the loads seen by an impeller’s bearings and seals, prolonging the overall service life of the pump. Electrically insulation Power-Core is an inert cast monomer and does not conduct electricity, which helps protects metallic pump components from the effects of electrolysis. Noise and vibration reduction Thanks to its weight advantage and an inherent mechanical damping capability, Power-Core reduces noise and vibration. Low friction Power-Core reduces the surface friction of pump components for an increase in pump efficiency.
WEG to sponsor Europump General Assembly in 2014 WEG Electric Motors is in line to sponsor the Europump General Assembly, taking place from 22 – 24 May in St Andrews, Scotland next year. Each year, a different European country plays the host nation and the event is usually organised by that country’s member association. This year it is the turn of the UK’s British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA). This is the first time that a commercial sponsor has been sort out for the event, which is being organized on behalf of the BPMA by event-organiser Touchwave Media who approached WEG as sponsor. Marek Lukazczyk, marketing manager, Europe and Middle East, WEG Electric Motors commented
that: “We’ve been involved with the BPMA for many years and we like supporting an industry which has supported us. This is a Europump initiative, so it’s Europe-wide and as European marketing manager, I’ve been able to look at the opportunity from WEG’s perspective at a European level. For us it’s all about relationship building. We will be in front of many more pump manufacturers than would otherwise attend an exhibition for example.“ The event’s location at St Andrews, Scotland is famous for its golf course, and although the specific details have yet to be finalized, WEG will also be sponsoring an associated Golf Tournament, taking place on the Saturday afternoon. www.europump2014.com
