"lhe President ~\elcomed the m e m b e r s of the Dental Olllccrs' Group and referred with pleas,ure to the presence ot Sir William Savage. The Treasurer, Dr. Asdey Weston, presented his report which showed a satisfactory balance at the end of the financial 3"ear. As Dr. W e s t o n h a d relinquished his post as treasurer the President t h a n k e d him for his services in this capacity during the p a s t four }'ears. Prof. A. 1. Darling, of the Bristol D e n t a l Hospital gave a mos,C interesting address on, " Fluoridation of W a t e r Supplies " with special reference to the recent work in America. tte described the measures which could be t a k e n in this c o u n t r y by local or mass applications of fluorine a n d intimated t h a t in his~ opinion f u r t h e r investigation a n d research were required before mass fluoridation of water s,upplies was undertaken. A brisk a n d prolonged discussion followed in which the President, Sir Wiliianl Savage, Mr. j . Fletcher, Dr. Irvine and others took p a r t . The thanks of the meeting to Prof. Darling were expressed by t h e President of the Dental Officers' Group, A meeting of the B r a n c h was held a t the Por~c Health Offices, Millbay Docks, P l y m o u t h , on Saturday, October 24th, 1953. The President for" I952-53 (Dr. E. C. Morris Jones) 22 m e m b e r s and five guests were present. The meeting was preceded by a luncheon at the Grand Hotel, P l y m o u t h . Dr. Morris Jones began b y t h a n k i n g ~he melnbers from the s o u t h e r n p a r t of the area for their response to her suggestion to discuss ways and means w h e r e b y the m e m b e r s from Devon and Cornwall m i g h t take a more active p a r t in the affairs of the Branch. She also thanked, Dr. Peirson for the excellent a r r a n g e m e n t s he had made for the hoIding of the meeting and Mr.. Bragg for conifng all the way from London

A meeting of t}~e Branch was held at Bristol on Saturday. N o v e m b e r I4th, 1953. The retiring President took the cha'ir and 24 m e m b e r s were present. I n response to a r e q u e s t from the S o u t h - W e s t Regional Hospital Board it was decided to n o m i n a t e Dr. Lycett as successor to Dr. J. B u r m a n Lowe on the Bath Clinical Area Medical Advisory Committee. Installalion of P r e s i d e n t . - - D r . Morris Jones vacated the chair in f a v o u r o[ the new President and invested him with the badge of office. Dr. Macrae paid t r i b u t e to the very success ful year of the first womai1 President. I n his presidential address on Poliomvelitis l)r, Macrae discussed this disease from every angle and, in addition, showed a s h o r t coIour fihn of a patient undergoing actual t r e a t m e n t at his hospital.
