international COMMENT

WIDER STILL AND WIDER In the present economic and technological climate it is no longer just desirable that the quality of a product is of a suitable standard, rather it is a condition of purchase and supply that an item meets stringent quality specifications. These specifications become more critical year by year and consequently present ever greater demands on all those responsible for the application and development of techniques to monitor quality, in particular, non-destructive testing techniques. This increasing demand for quality is not restricted to the industrialized nations, it is endemic throughout the world wherever manufacturing industry is being established. From this growing interest in ndt throughout the world emanates the increasing demand for knowledge and literature on ndt techniques and applications. This growth has been reflected closely in the development of the journal. From modest beginnings in 1967, the journal is now read in no less than 72 countries throughout the world. Over 67% of the circulation is outside the United Kingdom and almost half is outside Western Europe. Parallel with this international growth in circulation has been the increasing proportion of the editorial content derived from sources outside the UK without neglecting the home industry. Now that the journal is fully international in both content and readership it is a logical step to reflect this in the appearance of the journal. Therefore, from the next issue (August 1976) the journal will have a new cover design and also carry a new title: N D T I n t e r n a t i o n a l - the independent journal of non-destructive testing. The success of this journal is due in no small way to our friends in the industry; to our Advisory Editorial Board, to the contributors and, not least, to our readers and advertisers. D.
