ABSTRACT:
I could not be more pleased that this issue of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences honors the Emeritus Editor, William I. Higuchi, PhD. Bill Higuchi’s impact on the pharmaceutical sciences is widely acknowledged. His impressive professional biography and the many articles in this issue by colleagues and former students point to a remarkable career. The pharmaceutical sciences and APhA will always owe Bill a debt of gratitude for his leadership as Editor of J Pharm SciTM from January 1994 through March 2001, enabling the journal to continue and return to its former prominence. During his tenure the journal’s impact factor rose significantly. A readership survey conducted toward the end of his editorship demonstrated
readers’ high level of satisfaction with the journal. When he turned over the editor’s reins to Ron Borchardt, J Pharm SciTM was stable and poised for growth. And as any reader holding the weighty hard copy of this issue, or any recent issue, knows, the journal has indeed grown impressively. J Pharm SciTM has been APhA’s scientific journal since 1912. APhA has long held that the pharmaceutical sciences are the indispensable foundation for a knowledgeable pharmacy profession, a belief that Bill and I share. Bill also believed fervently in the importance of this journal, and he worked hard to ensure that it would serve well the international community of pharmaceutical scientists. In that endeavor, like many others, he succeeded brilliantly.
