Seal for a dispensing apparatus Applicant: Bespak PLC, UK A thermoplastic elastomer material for the manufacture of seals in pharmaceutical dispensing devices is described. It is formed from a blend including a propylene component with isotactic crystallinity; and one or more polymer of polypropylene, polyethylene or their copolymers. Publication number: WO/2008/029111 Inventor: D. Ohbi Publication date: 13 March 2008

Window seal Applicant: BSH Bosch Und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, Germany A hollow section seal that is designed to be used for sealing windows and similar applications is described. The hollow section contains a ‘superabsorber’ material which will swell in the presence of water or water vapour and provision is made for access of water from the outside. As vapour permeates into the seal it causes it to swell and increase the sealing force. Any local leakage can be cured by additional local swelling of the seal. Seal film for solar cell Applicant: Toray Industries, Inc. Japan The use of PPS film for sealing solar cells is covered in this patent. It offers benefits in resistance to degradation from environmental effects and improved gas barrier properties. It also has heat shrink ratios of the length and width of the sheet that fall within ± 2% which assists manufacture. Publication number: WO/2008/029651 Inventors: S. Miyaji, M. Noguchi and N. High pressure fluid connector and seal

Seal for joint connections on hot gas flow paths

Applicant: Fluid Routing Solutions, Inc. USA A system for connecting high pressure pipes, in particular automotive systems such as power steering, air conditioning and power braking is described. The operating conditions are expected to be up to 170bar and 150ºC. The use of fittings that involve an O-ring in a groove are said to be unreliable due to wear of the O-rings and the thinning of the tube caused by forming the O-ring groove. The sealing involves what is described as a grooveless seal member such as an O-ring or sleeve. The sealing sleeve, described in the patent as an O-ring is forced against the taper of the male end of the connector. The Oring is designed with flat inner and outer surfaces which provide it with the square surfaces that are needed to prevent it from premature wear. The fitting may be retained in position by either a threaded or quick fit connection. Publication number: WO/2008/027353 Inventors: T.E. Skiba et al. Publication date: 6 March 2008

Applicant: ElringKlinger AG, Germany This seal is intended for exhaust system joints. It comprises a radially inward facing metal flexible seal of elongated C section supported on the outside by a carrier ring that is shaped to retain the C ring. Publication number: WO/2008/037422 Inventors: W. Kullen et al. Publication date: 3 April 2008

The window seal with the centre filled with material that will swell in contact with water or vapour to increase the sealing force.

Joint seal Applicant: Boss Polymer Technologies Pty Ltd. Australia A seal for use between structures such as concrete tilt slabs or slab flooring is described. It is intended to replace conventional caulking methods that provide limited life and flexibility. It comprises a flexible rubber seal with sufficient body to allow it to be installed in any plane and provide a more economical sealing method.

Evaluating fastening state of threaded joint Applicants: Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. Japan and Vallourec Mannesmann Oil & Gas France, France A method for test in the integrity of threaded oil well tubing joints is covered in this patent using multi location axial ultrasonics. Publication number: WO/2008/029957 Inventors: I. Hoshino, M. Yamano and S. Nagasaku Publication date: 13 March 2008

Gasket-tank for a car radiator

The high pressure automotive pipe fitting described in WO 2008/027353 showing the taper fitting and the sleeve seal ‘O-ring’ (10).
