Call for offers of future venues for the annual WMS congress Any members of the Society who wish to host a WMS congress in 2013 and onwards, should first send a letter of intent to the secretary at any time, giving details of the venue, the local organising group and the preferred year(s). A more detailed submission should be sent in time for the annual spring meeting of the Executive Board. A set of guidelines for the benefit of organizers of future meetings is available on request from the WMS secretary.

Awards and Fellowships at the WMS congresses at a glance Fellowships and prizes (500 Euros each) Fellowships 1. A minimum of 30 fellowships from the WMS Education Fund (funded by an annual royalty from Neuromuscular Disorders from Elsevier). 2. Additional Fellowships from other funding sources.
The programme committee selects the recipients on the quality of the abstracts submitted and the analysis of a small submitted CV (including the special interest and expertise, details of current post, and the importance of the work to be presented). Applications should be submitted to the local congress organizer online at the time of submitting an abstract Applicants should be in training and not yet in a definitive established post. Prizes 1. Four Elsevier Prizes for the four best oral or poster presentations by young scientists (clinical or basic). 2. An additional series of 15 (equivalent each year to the age of the Society) Elsevier Awards of one year’s additional membership subscription to the WMS for the runners up to the Elsevier Prizes. 3. The President’s Prize for the Young Myologist of the Year, funded from the President’s Fund from proceeds of his memoirs (Ramblings of a Peripatetic Paediatrician). 4. Additional President’s Prize for the best presentation by a young first time presenter. 5. Lea Rose Prize: This annual award of 500 Euros is to the presenter of the most important contribution in SMA research at the WMS congress.
Senior fellowships The president has also decided to sponsor two (or more) additional annual fellowship (500 Euros) for senior myologists, who have been active in WMS in the past but are now retired and have constraints on their available funds. Applicants should provide a short review (no more than 250 words) of their activities in the neuromuscular field and their contributions to WMS. Applications should be sent to the local organizer. The closing date for application for fellowships is at the same time as the abstracts on 31st March.
ELECTION OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE BOARD AT WMS KUMAMOTO According to the WMS constitution, new elections will take place at the annual congress in Kumamoto, 12–16 October 2010. Nominations should be sent to the Secretary by Friday 17, September. Members may either nominate themselves or nominate others subject to their written approval. Electronic applications are welcome. Current members of the Executive Board are eligible to stand again. All candidates should provide a short bio (up to 250 words) of their current position, activities in relation to WMS and special areas of interest. The election will take place at the WMS general assembly meeting in Kumamoto. The number of members to be elected is 15. The new board will choose its officers (president, secretary and treasurer) at its first meeting in Kumamoto after the election.
