XVIIth European Chemistry at Interfaces Conference

This Special Issue of Colloids and Surfaces A publishes papers presented at ECIC-XVII. The Conference was organised by Prof. Victor Starov of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Loughborough University, 27 June–1 July 2005. The venue was held in the Loughborough Town Hall. ECIC-XVII was supported by the ECIC Standing Committee, International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists (http://www.fenk.wau.nl/iacis/), European Space Agency (ESA) (http://www.esa.int/), Capsulution NanoScience AG (www.capsulution.com), SINTERFACE Technologies (http://www.sinterface.com/) and L.O.T.-Oriel Ltd. (www.lotoriel.co.uk). ECIC-XVII was attended by 135 participants from all over the world. The financial support provided allowed supporting participation in the ECIC-XVII of a number of East European Scientists. Book of abstracts is still available on http://www-staff.lboro.ac.uk/∼cgvms/. ECIC-XVII included the following sessions: 1. Surfactants and polymers: interactions, nanoparticles preparation and behaviour at the interfaces (organisers: R. Miller, [email protected]; Julian Eastoe, [email protected]). 2. Fundamentals of liquid films and colloid systems stability: dispersions, suspensions and emulsions (organisers: B. Vincent, [email protected]; P. Luckham, [email protected]). 3. Wetting and capillarity (organisers: K. Sefiane, [email protected]; A. Emelyanenko, [email protected]).

4. New techniques for the investigation of surface properties (organisers: R. Rubio, [email protected]; T. Nylander, [email protected]). 5. Microgravity (organisers: L. Liggieri, [email protected]; T. Karapantsios, [email protected]). 6. Membrane separation and colloid science (organisers: D. Lloyd, [email protected]; I. Rubinstein, [email protected]). 7. Industrial applications (organisers: A. Bureiko, [email protected]; N. Hilal, [email protected]). Two Special Issues are organised to publish papers presented at ECIC-XVII the current issue and a parallel Special Issue of Advances in Colloid and Interface Science (volume 126) where review type papers have been published. This Special Issue includes 22 research papers presented at the Conference. Finally, I would like to apologise to many of the authors for the length of time this issue has taken to come to press.
