Young Investigators Competition This was the sixth year in which a Young Investigators Competition was included as part of the ISCE Program. Twenty-five high-quality abstracts were submitted, from which six finalists were chosen by a committee composed of Drs. Krucoff, Scherlag, Selvester, and Willems. These abstracts represented research in medical and/or engineering departments in universities and medical centers from North America, Europe, and Japan. The six finalists were: Chih-ming James Chiang, MSEE, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan Mario D. Gonzalez, MD, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Andrius Polikaitis, MS, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois Kenneth M. Stein, MD, Cornell Medical Center, New York, New York Rolf F. Veldkamp, MD, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina Andras Vereckei, MD, Indiana University, Indianapolis, Indiana On May 5, 1992, the finalists presented their work at the annual ISCE Conference. A short communication for each presentation follows in these Proceedings. First place was awarded to Dr. Stein, and honorable mention awards were presented to Mr. Chiang, Dr. Gonzalez, Mr. Polikaitis, Dr. Veldkamp, and Dr. Vereckei for their excellent submissions. The ISCE acknowledges the indispensable participation of the following organizations, whose donations allowed reimbursement for travel and registration expenses for the finalists in the competition.
