MODIFIERS AND PROCESSING AIDS

Rohm & Haas Co. is expanding its capacity f‘ormodifiers and processing aids by some 50% at Grangemouth (U.K.). The new f'acility will be on stream in 1990, and will produce acrylic impact modifiers as well as methyl methacrylate butadiene styrene modifiers. These modifiers are sold under the name Paraloid.

QUINACRIDONE PIGNRNT CAPACITY

Ciba-Geigy's Pigments Div. is expanding quinacridone pigment capacity at its Newport, Del., facility. Scheduled f'or completion in late 1989 and operation by early 1990, the expansion will increase the company's crude quinacridone capacity by approximately 20%. This follows a major investment in quinacridone pigment finishing completed in 1987.

PTFE MICROPOWDER IN THE U.K.

Du Pont(U.K.1 has appointed K. & K. Greeff' as distributor in the U.K. for the company's PTFE micropowders. PTFE micropowder is used as an additive for plastics, elastomers, lubricants, paints and printing inks. The U.S. Borax Research Corp. has recently carried out tests that show that zinc borate can be used in combination with ATH as an effective fire retardant and smoke suppressant in EVA, It is also very polyethylene, EPDM, EEA, epoxies and acrylics. effective when used alone in silicone rubbers. COMPANY NEWS ACQUISITION - EPOXY CUEING AGENTS

Anchor Chemical has acquired the Impex epoxy curing agent business from Penultimate Corporation of California. This will lead to an expansion of Anchor's range of dicyandiamide curing agents. The newly acquired curing agents will be marketed under their Impex trade name and applications are expected in aerospace composites, adhesives, electrical laminates and powder coatings.
