5026566 DRIED FOOD CONTAINING TREHALOSE AND METHOD FOR PREPARING SAME Bruce J Roser, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom assigned to Quadrant Bioresources Limited A method of drying a water-containing foodstuff or beverage at a temperature above ambient, is characterized by incorporating trehalose into the foodstuff or beverage which is to be dried. 5026833 4G ALPHA-D..GLUCOPYRANOSYL RUTIN, AND ITS PREPARATION AND USES Yukio Suzuki, Kei Suzuki, Ma:,aru Yoneyama, Toshio Miyake, Okayama, Japan assigned to Kabushiki Kaisha Hayashibara Seibutsu Kagaku Kenkyuju

A novel glycoside, 4G-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl rutin, is formed by a saccharide-transferring enzyme and glucoamylase in a solution which contains rutin together with glucoamylase. The 4Galpha-D-glucopyranosyl rutin formed in such a solution is purified with a synthetic macroreticular resin, and crystallization in an organic solvent yields a complex crystal with the organic solvent. 4G-Alpha-D-glucopyranosyl rutin exhibits the same molecular absorption coet~cient as intact rutin, and is readily water-soluble, substantially tasteless and odorless, and readily hydrolyTable in vivo to exhibit physiological activities inherent to rutin. These render 4G-alphaD-glucopyranosyl rutin very useful as a highlysafe, natural yellow coloring agent, antioxidant, stabilizer, quality-improving agent, preventive, remedy, uv-absorbent and deteriorationpreventing agent in foods, beverages, tobaccos, cigarets, feeds, pet foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and plastics.
